It seems the whole city of Gatlinburg was built for family fun. A combination of a ski resort and amusement park all in one. If you want to spend your day in one place having tons of fun together as a family, head to Ober Gatlinburg.

Ober sits a beautiful 1,400 feet above downtown Gatlinburg. The best way to get there is to take a breathtaking ten-minute ride on one of the largest aerial trams in the U.S. from downtown Gatlinburg to the resort. Once you disembark, you can enjoy the ski area featuring 10 runs for skiers from novice to advanced, snowboarding terrain park, and snow-tubing park.

In good weather (year-round), you can also enjoy the alpine slide (two hair-raising, 1,800-foot tracks side-by-side), Mountain Coaster, and a scenic chair lift. The youngest members of the family will enjoy the Kiddie Land, which offers lots of small children activity options, including a ride on a miniature train, is open only in the summer. Indoor activities that are open year-round include a large indoor ice-skating rink, various arcade games, a traditional carousel and the Smoky Mountain Wildlife Encounter (a mini zoo displaying regional critters).

While you can buy individual tickets to the different attractions at Ober Gatlinburg, I recommend getting the premium wristband ($25/per person, 4 and under free with paying adult) so that you can experience almost everything they have to offer and have all day fun!

Tip: If you buy a lift ticket, show your aerial tram ticket and you’ll get a discount.

Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort has excellent snow-making, equipment rentals, and a ski school. You can even rent parkas and snow pants, too!

With less than 4 hour drive time from Atlanta, you can make a long weekend out of it. With Gatlingburg and Pigeon Forge within 20 minutes, you could spend a week and not have time to do everything. So many family activities to do, you will have to come back!
