3Dimensional Coaching Ministers to Body, Mind and Spirit across Southeast Asia

Using virtual meeting platforms and online resources, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA, www.fca.org) is expanding outreach among female coaches through a comprehensive model, impacting players emotionally, physically and spiritually.

More than 40 coaches from eight countries joined together for a two-day virtual conference hosted by Southeast Asia FCA earlier this year. They were joined by two U.S. Mid-Atlantic Region staff and nine Huddle leaders who conducted the training in 3Dimensional (3D) Coachingâ, a curriculum designed to transform coaches in body, mind and spirit as they, in turn, transform their athletes.

Women’s ministry is on the rise in Southeast Asia, and FCA has innovated to stay ahead of the curve despite obstacles caused by the coronavirus pandemic. FCA is expanding its network and resources, connecting women virtually through monthly calls, WhatsApp and regular webinars. As COVID-19 travel restrictions ease, FCA will resume in-person training.

FCA Malaysia State Director Penny Khoo points to the power of 3D Coaching.

“Coaching can be intense and stressful,” Khoo said. “In the heat of the game, we can lose our cool. It happens. But with 3D Coaching, we can be intentional and impart godly influence.”

The FCA workshop was a value-based gathering, making it accessible to various backgrounds, countries and cultures. Its main goal was to equip and encourage coaches, while creating a platform to launch them into further connection after the webinar.

“They have passion and knowledge to go into their work ready and available,” Khoo said. “FCA comes in and provides a platform for resources, sees the needs and finds out how to meet them.”

The two-day virtual conference was just one platform designed to equip coaches to impact the body, mind and spirit of their athletes. Southeast Asia FCA staff are developing quarterly webinars for female coaches who discovered a desire to connect with other women and learn from them. This is in addition to the resources available on the FCA website. Khoo credits God for giving FCA the ability to encourage coaches through digital channels.

“Thank God for technology. Twenty to 30 years ago people would just be stuck in their homes with no ways of connecting,” Khoo said.

Earlier this year, FCA introduced FCA Virtual, an online and social media initiative to rally coaches, athletes and staff around the incredible stories of what God is doing through virtual FCA ministry. FCA Virtual is a space to gather ideas about how to engage teams and Huddles in online spiritual growth and to look for ways to serve and connect in this time of limited social interaction. FCA hopes coaches and athletes will be encouraged by what God is doing around the world through the virtual avenue. FCA Virtual will also help coaches, athletes and teams to keep up with evolving ministry and training events in the field, as they unify leaders around a common rallying cry during a time of increased isolation.
