If people whom you love were to follow your footsteps, where would they lead? Are your footsteps (representing the attitudes of your heart and the daily actions of your life) leading people to love the Lord, love people and lead others to do the same? Consider this text which describes Abraham –
“And he became the father of all who believe…. who FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE FAITH OUR FATHER ABRAHAM HAD ….”
Romans 4: 11, 12
Abraham did not leave us as our predecessor before us money or property – but something far more valuable; He left us a legacy of a life of faith who believed God’s promise in the coming Messiah. He believed in a promise that would take the Lord hundreds of years to fulfill, and the Lord gave to Abraham by grace the promise of being right with Him. Abraham became a ‘father’ of those who believe. Yet remember Abraham came from a family of unbelievers, and he broke the downward spiral of family brokenness by being the first of his family to believe God. He became ‘the father’ who left ‘footsteps of the faith’ for future generations to follow.
When you have lived your life and you pass into eternity, what will those who know you best testify about your life? Where did the footsteps of your life lead them? Did it lead them to the abundant life found in Jesus, or did it lead them to an empty life of chasing the world’s pleasures? Can your spouse, children, grandchildren pick up a well-worn Bible or a journal filled with testimony of your sincere love for the Lord and for people? Will there be individuals that they can point to that you lead to become disciples of Jesus?
Abba Father, I humbly pray that all who come behind me find me faithful. I ask that the footsteps that I leave would lead them to believe in You. For I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen!
